About Us

The YOUNG EXECUTIVES GROUP, popularly known as “Y.E.G.” was formed in 1964 by two leading Indian taipans of Hong Kong, Mr. K. Sital and Mr. Bob Harilela. In 1984 they decided to create separate Hong Kong and Kowloon chapters. Mr. K. Sital took the initiative and responsibility in establishing the Hong Kong chapter. He invited a group of 20 Indians for lunch at the Thailand Room of the old Hilton Hotel and 18 of those attending became the nucleus from which the HK YEG was formed.

Mr. Lal Malani, was elected the 1st President of the Group. Thereafter, a succession of leading members of the community took over the mantle of the Presidency and helped build the Group into what it has become today comprising of 95 members from a cross- section of the Indian community.

The membership ranks of Y.E.G. HK comprises of an interesting array of distinctive, dynamic and enterprising group of individuals from the Indian community. The secret recipe of the Group’s success has been its ability to attract and keep as members a combination of fathers/sons, uncles/nephews as well as fathers/sons-in-law all within the umbrella of one group running across the age range of 40-80 years. It is this diversity in unity that has been the catalyst that has allowed the Group to grow from strength to strength over the last “45” years. What a milestone achievement this is, and we as members are very proud to belong to this elite and distinguished group.

Y.E.G. HK meets on the first Tuesday of every month, except in the month of August. This year the lunches are held at the Island Shangri-La Hotel with a different food theme for each lunch. The members are entertained by invariably interesting speakers who touch on such diverse subjects as finance, business, health, real estate, stock market, a master geomancer who provides the members with his assessment of what the new lunar animal and year holds store as well as talks on spirituality. So apart from providing a social luncheon forum for members to meet, the Group also provides a forum for dissemination of ideas and exchange of information and knowledge over a wide spectrum of topics.

The old adage that ‘behind every successful man, is his wife’, is a motto that Y.E.G. HK strongly espouses. This is why considerable care and attention is paid to organize special occasions where members’ wives join in at least 4-5 functions every year. Generally, we kick start the year with a Valentine’s Day celebration. This is then followed by a variety of fun events such as Champagne Brunches, Drinks evenings in Lan Kwai Fong, Theme Parties as well as Cruise & Spa Resort Holidays.

In managing the affairs of the Group, we have ten dynamic committee members who provide unstinting support and enthusiasm to help oversee every detail of the monthly lunches including selecting special menus and arranging for the guest speakers. They also organize special drinks evenings where members and their wives get together to mix and mingle. The Committee usually meets every two months to plan events, review and discuss future programs, critically evaluate what we are doing right and what needs improving and responding to members feedback in a positive and constructive manner. At all times, the primary focus and emphasis of the Committee is to provide the members with a fun-filled and rollicking good time at all Group functions.

As President this year, I am looking forward to hosting these fun activities through which so many friendships have blossomed and strengthened over the years. A new feature introduced this year is the delivery of a cake to each member to commemorate their wedding anniversary as a token of remembrance on behalf of the Group of their special day.

The ‘senior’ members of the Group are a ready and constant source who can be accessed for advice, motivation and strength, and I hold each one of them in high regard and respect. They are the bedrock of the Group who provide help and guidance and ideas as to how to best strengthen the Group. It would be remiss of me if I did not extend my gratitude to all those who have supported me and had faith in my abilities to head this organization. I would like to acknowledge the efforts made my predecessor Mr. Mohan Bharwaney S.C. who was instrumental in injecting younger blood and fresher ideas to this prominent group. With the overwhelming support of all our members and the Committee, I am confident that Y.E.G. will strive to become a stronger, more vibrant and dynamic organization in the years to come.
